The international event Democracy4All (or D4A), which has been held annually since 2019, is back with a hybrid format, offering both online and on-site experience, in its second year coping with Covid.
The Democracy4All event brings together talent, experts and policymakers to share and discuss the latest advances in technology and regulation. This year's edition will be based on the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance set by the Council of Europe, which encapsulate fundamental values defining a common vision of democratic governance in Europe (see the 12 principles here).
"We believe that the 12 principles can be an extremely helpful point of reference for many public authorities at any level. This basis can help them measure and improve the quality of their governance, and enhance service delivery to citizens", claims Vasilisa Marinchuk, director of the event, "We are convinced that blockchain technology can be a fundamental tool to achieve them."
The list of speakers is composed by local and international actors, both from technological and political sectors. Some confirmed participants are Mr. John Denton, Secretary General of the ICC, Mr. Jordi Puigneró, Vice-president of the Catalan Government, Mr. Pēteris Zilgavis., Head of Unit, Digital Innovation & Blockchain DG CONNECT, European Commission and Mrs. Mònica Roca, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona. The complete list of confirmed speakers, which is constantly being updated, can be seen in the official Democracy4All website: www.d4a.io.
One of the key activities that this event offers is start-up pitching, where dozens of shortlisted entrepreneurs will have the chance of presenting their enterprises at no charge, and be heard by venture capitalists or angel investors and potential partners and customers. With certain basic criteria to be met, any blockchain related startup can already apply to secure its spot on the D4A Start-up Stage in November. Interested start-ups can submit their application here.
Many other activities are planned for the two days that the event lasts, including several hybrid round tables which will cover many topics to be held in various sessions, where participants and representatives from all around the world will have the opportunity to raise their voice. The objective is to offer a wide variety of topics -always related to the techno-political space- so that any entity, firm or association willing to participate can find their place in the discussion.
Democracy4All's orientation makes it a unique event in the world, as it focuses on the use of blockchain and DLTs as an instrument of democratic improvement in terms of social, corporate and individual governance. It offers Catalonia the opportunity to host the most important international conclave for political actors and institutions everywhere, and contributes to speeding up the dialogue between government bodies and new technologies.
